Keep a journal with dates and times and the nature of the abuse. If you have any orders of protection against your spouse, keep a record of any violations. Keep copies of children’s report cards. It is also important for you to have put away in a safe place copies of financial records, including rent receipts, utility bills, credit card statements, and bank statements. You will need these documents at court if and when you decide to speak to the attorney about your situation.
